KOHIMA, OCTOBER 7 (MExN): The District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) on Safe Food & Healthy Diets held a meeting here on Tuesday to review ongoing food safety measures in the district.
During the meeting, five Task Force Teams presented reports on inspection visits conducted across Kohima. Deputy Commissioner Kohima commended the teams for completing the first phase of inspections.
Over five days, the teams inspected 108 establishments, including 31 hotels and 77 restaurants, checking FSSAI license validity, hygiene standards, and compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Common deficiencies observed included expired food items, improper storage, lack of pest control, unhygienic kitchens, absence of separate storage for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, damp floors, and use of newspapers for covering food. Several establishments also lacked medical fitness certificates for workers and valid water quality reports.
Following inspections, 18 improvement notices and one suspension notice will be issued. The DLAC urged all food business operators to maintain proper hygiene, sanitation, and licensing to ensure safe food practices.
