Kohima, September 10 (MExN): A high-level meeting to review road connectivity affected by the massive landslide on August 5, 2026, at Kewhitsütuo Model, Kohima, was held on September 10, at the Office Chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima. The session was chaired by Kohima Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem (NCS).
The meeting focused on immediate relief measures, road restoration, drainage management, and long-term stabilization plans for the affected road stretch spanning from Kewhitsütuo Model to IG Stadium, Meriema. Officials from the district administration, NSDMA, Urban Development Department, KSCDL, DIPR, and representatives of T Khel Council and Kewhitsütuo Model Council attended the deliberations.
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), through DDMA Kohima, will provide relief assistance under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to individuals affected by the landslide.
The Urban Development Department was directed to maintain alternative routes and assess urban ward and colony drains above the affected area to ensure safe surface water runoff discharge.
The Kohima Smart City Development Corporation Limited (KSCDL), under whose jurisdiction the road falls, was tasked with immediate restoration work tentatively scheduled to begin in October 2026 and finish before December 2026.
An estimated Rs 1.20 crore proposal for immediate road restoration was presented, with the meeting endorsing KSCDL to forward the proposal to the State Government at the earliest alongside a comprehensive long-term permanent restoration plan.
T Khel Council and Kewhitsütuo Model Council agreed to provide the required No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to facilitate restoration and slope stabilization.
A joint verification to assess damage extent and restoration requirements has been scheduled for September 14 at 7:00 AM.
Concluding the meeting, the DC briefed attendees on ongoing clearance of choked drains across Kohima Town, urging departments to complete the work swiftly and asking KSCDL to prioritize the damaged road, which serves as a vital arterial alternative route to NH-29.
