Kohima, September 30 (MExN): The Kohima District Level Science Seminar was organised by District Education Office (DEO), Kohima in collaboration with National Science Centre, Guwahati, a unit of National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and Directorate of School Education, Nagaland. It was held under the topic, ‘The Quantum Age Begins: Potentials and Challenges’ at the DEO Kohima on September 30, stated a press release.
The keynote address was delivered by Patricia Vizo, Joint Director, Directorate of School Education (DoSE). She emphasised the transformative possibilities of the emerging Quantum Age, stating that quantum science is not just a distant concept but a force already shaping daily life and one that will increasingly influence the future. She highlighted the quantum applications across several key areas such as agriculture, health, energy, and technology. While she stressed the challenges that accompany such progress, stating that quantum systems are expensive and complex, requiring deep knowledge of mathematics and science. Besides, she emphasized the need to be responsible for use of these powerful tools wisely to benefit humanity rather than cause harm.
She asserted that the future will belong to those who prepare today through curiosity, hard work, and imagination. Vizo encouraged the students to keep asking questions, build strong foundations in their studies, and embrace the opportunities of the Quantum Age because the next great discovery could be theirs.
The programme was led by Kajina Sote, Project Assistant, DMA, Samagra Shiksha, with an invocation prayer by Neisiesa Chüsi, AEO at Sr. SDEO Kohima. The welcome address was delivered by Rokoneinuo, ADC, DMA, Samagra Shiksha.
The seminar was judged by jurists John Kiso, GHSS Kigwema; Neikezhapfü Dzüvichü, TMGHSS; and Sarokhaibam Dayananda Singh, Mezhür HSS.
The winners of the seminar were: Ejonthung Odyuo, Mt. Hermon HSS, in first position; Rekuyile Nsarangbe, Living Tree School, in second position; and Neksung Caleb Longkumer, Stella HSS, in third position.
A total of eight schools from both government and private institutions participated in the seminar. The winners will represent the district at the State Level Science Seminar on October 10.
