Kohima, October 31 (MExN): The State Election Commission, Nagaland has declared the results of the bye-election to Ward-11 (Zhipa) under Pfutsero Town Council held on October 28.
According to the official press release issued by the State Election Commissioner, T. John Longkumer, IPS (Retd), the results were announced on October 31, with Independent candidate Krokulo Khutso securing victory over fellow Independent candidate Tewu Mero.
Khutso polled 315 votes, constituting 54.40% of the total valid votes, while Mero received 264 votes, amounting to 45.59%. Khutso won by a margin of 51 votes. Out of a total of 594 votes polled, 579 were declared valid and 15 invalid.
The overall voter turnout stood at 87.09%. Of the total votes polled, male voters constituted 48.48% (288) while female voters made up 51.51% (306), indicating higher participation among female voters.
By age cohort, 21.11% (144) of voters were between 18 and 25 years, 35.7% (244) were in the 26–40 age group, 24% (163) between 41 and 60 years, 5.8% (40) between 61 and 80 years, and 0.4% (3) were above 80 years of age.
The State Election Commission expressed satisfaction over the smooth, peaceful, and successful conduct of the election. It also extended appreciation to all officials involved in the process, as well as to the electors, Civil Society Organizations, and the State Government for their cooperation.
