Dimapur, October 11 (MExN): The Lions Club of Dimapur Elite sponsored cataract surgeries for 13 patients from Dimapur at Jorhat Lions Eye Centre in Jorhat, Assam, on October 9 as part of Vision Week, being observed from October 8 to 18.
The initiative aimed to help patients suffering from cataract-related vision problems access essential surgical treatment and improve their vision, independence and quality of life. The club reaffirmed its commitment to making eye care accessible to those in need and preventing avoidable blindness.
In another initiative, the Lions Club of Dimapur organised an International Peace Poster Competition on the theme “Harmony in Humanity” at the Lions Club Hall in Midland, Dimapur, on October 10.
More than 40 students from 14 schools and art institutions participated in the competition, expressing their ideas on peace, unity and coexistence through art.

The competition was judged in two stages. In the first round, renowned Dimapur artist Yanger and Debika Bhattacharjee, art teacher at Little Star Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, shortlisted seven paintings from more than 50 entries.
The shortlisted paintings were then evaluated by CA Shweti Jain, founder of Arternity, an art consulting and design house based in Kolkata, for the final round.
Hardik Kheani of Chitrakala School of Fine Art, Holy Cross Branch, won the first prize, while Subhajit Debnath of the same branch secured the second prize. Smiti Debnath of Chitrakala School of Fine Art, Lhomithi Branch, won the third prize.
The poster competition was led by club president Lion Basu Damani and chairman Lion Pratik Dutta, with Lion Abhishek Kumar Atal and Lion Rishab Chhabra serving as co-chairpersons.
The club expressed gratitude to the participants, parents, art teachers and judges for their contributions to the competition and for promoting the message of peace.
