Wokha, October 21 (MExN): The Lotha Lower Range Public Organisation (LLRPO) has made a public appeal to all citizens, village authorities, landowners, and constituent units to stand united in protecting their ancestral land, indigenous rights, resources, and economic future, particularly in view of the ongoing eviction proceedings along the Assam–Nagaland border.
In a circular issued on October 21, the organisation outlined a four-point directive focusing on land protection, Inner Line Permit (ILP) enforcement, accountability, and collective responsibility.
Protection of ancestral land and prohibition of shelter.
The LLRPO strongly appealed to all units and citizens not to harbour or provide shelter to any illegal migrants seeking to evade lawful eviction or facilitate unlawful settlement. The organisation mandated that all suspected violations must be reported immediately to competent authorities to initiate lawful action against illegal settlers as well as landowners harboring them.
Strict implementation of ILP
Calling for rigorous enforcement, LLRPO urged the police and administration to strictly implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and other applicable laws through regular verification and authorized surprise checks. While emphasizing that the ILP must serve as an effective tool to prevent unlawful permanent settlement, the organisation noted it should not be used to harass genuine tourists, legitimate investors, or law-abiding visitors. Proper verification of temporary workers and traders is essential to prevent misuse of temporary entry.
Accountability and enforcement
The LLRPO stated that it will coordinate with the administration and competent authorities to support lawful monitoring and verification. Any member or affiliated unit found after due inquiry to have knowingly facilitated unlawful occupation or obstructed enforcement will face strict organizational action, including disaffiliation from LLRPO, alongside legal action through competent authorities.
Furthermore, penalties, document seizures, or customary disciplinary measures must only be undertaken by authorized bodies following established procedures.
Collective responsibility and youth empowerment
Urging all stakeholders to remain vigilant and protect land records, the LLRPO emphasized that local resources and businesses must secure a future for the Naga youth. The organisation stressed the need for unity, discipline, and determination to ensure unemployed youth are not reduced to being mere employees of outsiders. Instead, it advocated for a strategy to empower youth to bring in investments, become business owners, and build a self-reliant Nagaland.
