Wokha, October 19 (MExN): The Lotha Hoho Committee on Environment Studies on Monday launched a four-day environmental assessment and study tour across Wokha district to examine environmental issues and explore opportunities for conservation and sustainable development.

The tour was flagged off by Lotha Hoho Chairman Er Mhondamo Ovung from the SMF and Central Bank area along NH-2 (NH-61). It will continue until October 22, covering various locations across the district.

Steve Odyuo, convenor of the committee and founder of Natural Nagas, an organisation working for wildlife and environmental conservation, said the committee was constituted during a Lotha Hoho general meeting held at Maratchü Council Hall on August 12, 2025, to study environmental issues and concerns in Wokha district.

He said the committee brings together experts from different fields to examine environmental challenges, identify local concerns and explore opportunities for conservation and sustainable development.

Odyuo said the four-day tour would serve as a preliminary exercise, with teams formed according to their respective areas of expertise visiting different parts of the district. The study aims to develop a better understanding of environmental conditions across Wokha and identify issues requiring attention for the benefit of local communities, he added.

Flagging off the tour, Ovung encouraged committee members to carry out their responsibilities with dedication and wished them success. He expressed hope that the study would help identify environmental concerns and contribute to the conservation and sustainable development of the district.

On the first day, the team visited Phiro village and interacted with villagers as part of its preliminary assessment to understand local conditions and perspectives.

The team was later hosted by Benri Ezung at his farmhouse in Chandalashung, where it stayed overnight as part of the first day's tour.
