Loyem Memorial High School FC Triumphs in U-17 Youth League Final

Loyem Memorial High School FC emerged victorious in a thrilling finale against defending champions Shaangle FC at the 2nd Edition of the U-17 Youth League Football Tournament. The tournament, organized by HaatJaang Brothers, concluded on Thursday at the Loyem Memorial Astro Turf Ground in Tuensang town.  

The week-long tournament, which featured 15 teams from across Tuensang district, showcased the region’s budding football talent. Designed to foster grassroots development in the sport, the tournament lived up to its promise with electrifying performances and nail-biting moments.  

In the semifinals, Shaangle FC defeated King’s United FC Longkhim in a tightly contested match, while Loyem Memorial High School FC outplayed Chingmei XI in a dominant display, setting the stage for a highly anticipated final.  

The championship clash began with high energy as both teams vied for control. Loyem Memorial High School FC struck first when Ponyie netted a stunning goal in the 21stminute, igniting cheers from the crowd. Shaangle FC responded in the second half, with Mark leveling the score in the 48thminute with a composed finish. However, just four minutes later, Ponyie capitalized on a defensive error to score his second goal, ultimately leading Loyem Memorial High School FC to a hard-fought 2-1 victory and dethroning the defending champions.  

The champions were awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000, a trophy, and certificates, while the runners-up received Rs 20,000 and certificates. Individual accolades added to the excitement: Ponyie’s six-goal tally earned him the Golden Boot, Abin of Shaangle FC was recognized with the Golden Glove for his goalkeeping excellence, and Sangle Ongbou of Loyem Memorial High School FC was named the Most Valuable Player.  

The tournament was conducted under the guidance of AIFF D-License Coach Changsang Ongbou, with Menya Wongto serving as the tournament commissioner.
