LYCF condemns alleged drone strike on civilians in Khammoi

LONGWA, OCTOBER 25 (MExN): The Longwa Yen Citizens Forum on Friday strongly condemned the alleged drone attack on civilians at Khammoi village on October 20, terming it “brutal” and “inhuman.”

In a statement, the forum said Khammoi village, though located across the Indo-Myanmar border, shares ancestral, cultural, and linguistic ties with Longwa under the same chieftainship. “Khammoi is not merely a village across a border, but an inseparable part of Longwa’s heritage,” it said.

The forum alleged that the attack, reportedly carried out by Indian armed forces around 6:30 pm IST, resulted in the death of a seven-year-old girl, a student, and a 27-year-old man, who was a joint secretary of the Khammoi Students’ Union. Four others were also critically injured, it said.

Calling the incident “deliberate, unlawful and unjustifiable,” the forum stated that such actions violate humanitarian rights and international laws, and have triggered fear and insecurity among the people.

It urged the Nagaland government, civil society and organisations to condemn the incident and take measures to restore peace and ensure the safety of civilians.

The forum also appealed to media organisations to verify facts before publication, claiming that misleading reports suggested the operation targeted NSCN-K (YA) designated camps. “No designated camps were targeted. It was a civilian residential area,” the statement said.
