Imphal | December 28: In yet another offensive act committed against BJP in the Manipur chief minister’s bastion, the house of the party’s Mahila Morcha Thoubal Mandal president had been attacked and ransacked by the alleged supporters of the chief minister last night during which properties worth thousands of rupees were also reported to have looted.
The residence of L. Kunjabati, 55, president, BJP Mahila Morcha Thoubal Mandal was attacked by a group of people with volley of stones last night around 7:30 at Leishangthem Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district, the home constituency of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
Eye witnesses said a group of men and women numbering about 40, out of which at least 22 were identified to be active workers of the chief minister, stormed the residence and ransacked it. It is said that the reason behind the attack was over a demand of seat at the newly constructed Thoubal Market shed. The attackers first asked for Kunjabati after making a sudden appearance at the courtyard of the residence but they started attacking it by throwing volley of stones after family members told them that she was not home yet.
The state BJP termed the attack a “life attempt” on the party’s women wing president. BJP vice president professor S Tiken described the incident as “very unfortunate” and strongly condemned the act committed by the supporters of the chief minister. He also expressed serious concerned over the repeated violent incidents that occurred in the constituency of Ibobi in the past few weeks. Tiken said the yesterday incident will be put up before the law court as well as the Election Commission of India so that the persons involved in the dastardly act can be punished in a befitting manner.
Most of the attackers were government employees and VDF personnel, the state BJP vice president alleged and further told the media that the family members of Kunjabati were somehow managed to rescue by O Indira, an intending candidate in the coming 10th assembly elections scheduled to be held January 28 next year.
