Dimapur, July 3 (MExN): Search operations by Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Territorial Army, SDRF and NDRF at the landslide site at Tupul, Manipur continues despite adverse weather conditions owing to heavy rains and fresh landslides on Saturday night.
According to a defence official release received here on Sunday, the Through Wall Radar and search and rescue dog inducted are being employed to hasten the search operation. Besides the 13 Territorial Army personnel and five civilians that were safely rescued, mortal remains of 23 Territorial Army personnel and 11 civilians have been recovered so far, the release stated.
Mortal remains of seven personnel of Territorial Army were sent to respective home stations by IAF aircraft and an Indian Army helicopter to Kolkata, Bagdogra and Agartala. They were paid full military honors by GOC RedShield Division and IG IGAR (South) at Imphal on Sunday morning. Similar befitting honors will be paid at respective home stations as well, it said.
The release further stated that relentless efforts to search for remaining seven missing Territorial Army personnel and 21 civilians will continue till the last individual is found.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with Health Minister, Chief Secretary and DGP of Manipur visited Assam Rifles Multispeciality Hospital at Mantripukhri on Sunday, another release stated.
The Chief Minister interacted with seven injured soldiers of 107 Infantry Battalion (TA) who survived the catastrophic landslide at Tupul, Noney district on June 30. He enquired about their well being and prayed for their speedy recovery. He also presented Rs 50,000 each to the injured soldiers, the release informed.
