Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) on Friday appealed the striking teachers of government schools to review their decision of abstaining from discharging examination duties.
Teachers of government schools under the aegis of Joint Teachers’ Forum (JTF) have been on cease-work strike since February 2.
Among others, the teachers have been pressing the state government to rectify the anomalies in the Revision of Pay (RoP), 2019. While resorting to the cease work strike, the teachers have also threatened to boycott the Class X and XII examinations commencing from February 14 and 17 respectively.
The examination for Class-X is to be conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) and that of Class-XII by COHSEM.
Addressing a press conference at his office chamber, COHSEM chairman Dr L Mahendra appealed the teachers to review their decision of boycotting the upcoming exams in the interest of the students.
The chairman said that preparations for the smooth conducts of the exams have been completed.
“We heard that respected teachers have decided to boycott the exams as a part of their stir pressing the state government to address their demands. We are very concerned on hearing the news,” he said, while appealing to the teachers to review their decision in the interest of the students.
He hoped that the teachers will review the decision through talks with the government before the commencement of the exam.
Meanwhile, students of Dhanamanjuri University (a cluster university) warned of launching agitation if normalcy in the government colleges is not returned immediately.
Teachers of government colleges are also launching cease-work strike since February 3 pressing the state government to fulfill their demands, which include among others, adoption of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations 2018.
The teachers launched the strike under the aegis of Federation of Government College Teachers' Association Manipur (FEGOCTA). Besides boycotting classes the teachers are also staging sit-in-protests at their respective colleges.
Supporting the FEGOCTA’s stir, teachers of DM College of Arts staged the protest at their college campus on Friday.
Leaders of FEGOCTA who attended the protest, announced that they will not retreat from their stir until the government fulfill their demands.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference, leaders of college students under DM University demanded that the state government works out to end the strike of the teachers immediately.
