Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): The Nagaland Medical Students’ Association (NMSA) will continue its ‘peaceful agitation’ to firmly oppose a notification issued on August 18 by the Department of Health & Family Welfare (DoHFW), Nagaland.
According to the NMSA, the notification seeks to regularise 280 contractual COVID-19 appointees in the department. The Association is demanding the immediate revocation of the August 18 notification regularising contractual appointees.
The medical students are also pressing for all sanctioned posts to be requisitioned either to the Nagaland Public Service Commission or the Nagaland Staff Selection Board, and for all vacancies to be filled through “open advertisement, written examination, and viva voce as per service rules.”
“Let us unite and demand justice not only for ourselves but for the future of fairness, merit, and equal opportunity in Nagaland,” the NMSA stated.
The Association also called upon all student bodies, civil organisations, and right-thinking citizens to join in solidarity, while urging organisations and groups to assign a representative for a solidarity speech.
“It is now or never. Let us raise our voices together against this unjust and discriminatory policy,” it added.
As per the NMSA, the protestors will gather at the Secretariat Bus Stand at 9:30 AM and proceed in procession towards the DoHFW for a peaceful protest. On August 30, the medical students also staged a peaceful demonstration outside the DoHFW Directorate.
Unconstitutional: CTAN to join stir
Meanwhile, the Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) has called for a collective protest against what it termed the “unconstitutional regularisation” of 98 contractual COVID-19 appointees through departmental screening.
The CTAN stated that it strongly opposes this unconstitutional and arbitrary move, which undermines meritocracy and established recruitment norms.
Accordingly, extending solidarity with the NMSA, it urged all its federating units to join the collective protest starting September 1 in Kohima.
“Your active participation is crucial to safeguard fairness, equal opportunity, and the future of all aspirants. Together with NMSA, let us stand united to uphold justice and transparency in recruitment,” the CTAN added.
