The Merhülietsa Colony Gate, constructed under the Iconic Project 2025–26 of Kohima Town MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhütso, was inaugurated on July 3 by T Khel Council Chairman K Neibou Sekhose.
The gate, located at Merhülietsa Colony in Ward 18 under the Kohima Municipal Council, was built as part of the MLA's constituency development initiative.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Rhütso said he has been striving to promote community-based development initiatives across Kohima town. He expressed hope that everyone entering through the gate would uphold the spirit of goodwill and abide by the principles of the colony authority.
He also said the gate would usher in prosperity, peace and unity, recalling that traditional Naga village gates symbolise protection and blessings. He prayed that all those passing through the gate would be blessed with good health, safety and well-being. Addressing the gathering, Sekhose said, "May this gate stand tall for unity, peace and progress of the state capital." Thanking Dr Rhütso for constructing the gate, he said the project had given the residents "more than iron and concrete." "You gave us dignity. This gate carries our culture, security, unity and identity of our colony and the state as a whole," he said.
Sekhose added that he hoped everyone passing through the gate would experience the spirit of oneness. "This gate is open to everyone; it need not be closed again for fear of enemies, intruders or outsiders because we know that our Almighty God is our protector," he said.
The programme was chaired by Merhülietsa Colony Youth Working President Vizolie Viluo. Pastor Rev Vizolie Zhale of CRC Merhülietsa offered the invocation, while Merhülietsa Council Vice Chairman Dilo Koza delivered the vote of thanks.
