Shillong, September 3 (MExN): Congress legislator, K V Pusa today said Nagas looked at education as a passport to a government job but now Nagas have reached a stage where such a perception is no longer valid.
Speaking during the Freshers social of Angami Students Union Shillong on Friday, former president of Pradesh Congress Committee, Pusa said high literacy rate has made it impossible for all to be accommodated in government jobs. That does not mean education is no longer needed, because its scopes go much beyond degrees and titles he said.
He said modern education has to do with the development of the human mind to a level which is conterminous with contemporary social and technological trends. He said without its educated workforce the upkeep of the pace of development in any society will not be possible.
When you come back after the completion of your studies it should not be just to fill in job vacancies but to fit into the society and become a key player in its upliftment the congress lawmaker exhorted the students.
Pusa said Naga society is still far behind in development and rife with socio-economic and political maladies and that people could see that the burden that awaits the educated people is going to be heavy. We need to raise a strong generation of energetic people who are ready to take over this responsibility he added.
He said Naga community cannot afford to be conservative and narrow minded anymore as the time has come for them to go out of their comfort zone and find a foothold in different fields of human activity anywhere in the world.
