Mid-day meal sans food for mind

Dimapur, Jan 19 (MExN):  With a view of implementing the government’s directive of making the midday meal effective among primary and elementary school children, the Chakhesang Government Primary School at Diphupar today treated 120 children to a grand feast.

Sadly however, the text books, among other delicacies, were not available for the mind.

The school caters to around 150 children from middle and poor class families each year. And as in previous years, the text books, it appears this time too, will keep the children in sheer anticipation as the academic year progresses.

Speaking to this reporter, a source pointed out that the text books, if delayed, could hamper the academic year. He also made special mention of how difficult it was to convince parents into sending their children to school. ‘If the delay of text books was stretched, then it would invariably plant a sense of disinterest into the minds of the children.’

The mid-day meal was certainly a well executed directive. But the children had to do without the desserts. Even if it meant that the text books were promised to be served this time.
