Dimapur, November 6 (MExN): The Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE) on Wednesday organised an extension-cum-outreach activity with the theme “Campus to Community (C2C): Gen Z to Silent Generation” in Viswema village, Kohima.
In a press release issued by the principal, it stated that the initiative had B.Ed. 3rd semester students and teachers engaged directly with the elderly people of the village with an aim to foster inter-generational dialogue and facilitate cultural preservation.
It stated that the students and the teachers, representing the younger generation, were organized into groups where they visited families across Viswema village and that their mission was to connect with elderly members (often referred to as the Silent Generation) to document personal stories, traditions, and the ancestral ways of life.
“This interaction was crucial for the students to gain deeper insights into community values and the cultural identity of Nagaland, turning traditional knowledge into a living lesson,” it stated.
At the same time, it stated that the highlight of the day was the meal shared with the elders as each student group had lunch with the elder they were assigned to.
It stated that this informal setting fostered genuine bonding, symbolizing unity and mutual respect between the youth and the elderly, making the cross-generational exchange particularly warm and memorable.
Likewise, it stated that the initiative effectively underscored the necessity of bridging the gap between generations while actively nurturing empathy, respect and core values for future educators.
