A 17-day Mizoram budget session was adjourned sine die by Speaker of the Assembly, Lalrinliana Sailo on Wednesday. The Speaker announced the adjournment in the afternoon after giving a brief report on the proceedings of the session.
The budget session, which commenced from February 17, was the fifth session of the present legislative assembly.
During the session, the state legislative assembly passed the annual budget amounting to Rs. 10,081.01 crore for the fiscal 2020-2021 and supplementary demands for grants amounting to Rs Rs 3,393.13 crore for the current fiscal 2019-20, presented by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, who is also the Finance minister.
The assembly also passed six government bills, including The Mizoram (Registration of Tourist Trade Bill, 2020, The Mizoram (Land Revenue) (2nd Amendment) Bill, 2020 and The Mizoram Goods and Services Tax (Third Amendment) Bill, 2020.
Out of the 71 private member resolutions admitted, the assembly unanimously adopted two resolutions----religious freedom and Bru settlement. It also adopted one official resolution on 126th amendment bill to the Constitution passed by both the houses of the Parliament.
At least 13 papers, including The Mizoram Education (Transfer and Posting of School Teachers) (Amendment) Rules, 2020 were laid in the house.
Of the 439 starred questions, 421 were admitted and 18 rejected. 191 questions were placed in the list of business and 46 questions have been answered while 145 questions could not be answered in the house. Answers to about 14 questions were not received by the house, Sailo said.
The house received at least 249 unstarred questions of which 230 were admitted and 19 rejected.
The assembly also paid tributes to former Deputy Speaker Lalthankunga and former member C. Lalsangzuala, who died recently.
Meanwhile, Sailo thanked the members for maintaining decorum in the house during the session and urged to maintain the friendly culture to set an example for others. He also thanked officials of concerned department and police for their support.
