7th SCC valedictory function on Sept 10
Dimapur, September 8 (MExN): The valedictory function of the 7th Sumi Chess Championship 2011 is scheduled for September 10, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Circuit House conference hall, Dimapur. A press note issued by Mughaho Awomi, president, Sumi Chess Association stated that Dr. Hekugha Muru has consented to be the chief guest for which the guest would also crown the winners of the Championship, followed by light refreshment at the premises.
Inter GMS archery championship
Kohima, September 8 (MExN): The Directorate of Youth Resources & Sports informed all the 22 adopted Government Middle Schools (SSA) that the department will be organizing the Inter Government Middle School Archery Championship from September 20 to 23 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima. Stating this in a release, the youth resources & sports director Kelei Zeliang requested all the concerned schools (SSA) to participate in the championship as part of their curriculum under SSA Scheme.
Unity College annual sports meet
DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 8 (MExN): The 4th annual sports meet of Unity College, Dimapur began on Thursday, September 8. General secretary, NPF (finance) Basu Damani graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest. Addressing the inaugural, Damani said that sports is an important constituent for a sound mind, body and soul. Like the name of the college, he said that unity should be at the core of all activities. Hence, he urged the students to promote a spirit of camaraderie in the course of the meet and also at all times, while making the college proud. He also acknowledged the management of the institute for achieving so much in such a short period of time. This, in itself is testimony of the management’s efficiency and their motivation to provide quality education to its students, he said. As a gesture of kindness and appreciation, he also pledged to donate one table tennis board to the college. It will conclude on September 10.
KPC Sports meet 2011 on Sept 17
Kohima, September 8 (MExN): The Kohima Press Club (KPC) in its meeting held on September 8 at the KPC office has decided to hold Ist KPC Sports Meet 2011 on September 17, 2011. The one day sports meet will be marked by Table Tennis, Chess and Carom (Both boys & girls) where attractive prizes will be awarded to the winners in each discipline. The KPC members have been requested to confirm their participation on or before September 15. Contact; KPC Joint secretary Asa Seyie.

Dimapur, September 8 (MExN): The Dimapur District Badminton Association is organizing Invitational Veteran Badminton Summer Championship on September 10 at Indoor Stadium, Half Nagarjan. The categories are: 35 years and above, 45 years and above, 55 years and above. There would a special category for 60 years and above. The match would begin at 7 a.m. Badminton players from Shillong, Kohima and Dimapur are participating in the event. Entry fee is Rs 500. Last date for receiving the entry is September 9 till 12 noon.
