•- The second phase of political talk between India and Nagas has been going on for more than a decade of years to reach a settlement honourable and acceptable to both sides. It is a very remarkable thing to note that India recognised the uniqueness of the Naga problem and situation. The uniqueness is that the Nagas have been struggling for their right only. But the sad thing is that India ignored it and crushed the Nagas down to the ground with military power. I am a man of 88 who had undergone the trauma. If the past is recollected, how the houses were burnt to ashes, how innocent villagers were also killed for which the masses were compelled to flee to jungles for fear of lives, how the people were tortured with cruelty, how militants were hunted like beasts, how explosion of bomb shelling was heard almost every day, how jails were overflowed and how cruel atrocities were perpetrated on the Nagas beyond description are seen lingering in the eyes. I was an ex-M.L.A. and was a peace worker but I myself was knocked to the ground several times with gnashing of teeth out of hatred mocking at me being a peace maker. If there is an international court of justice, it is worth trying in the international court. The Nagas are a small people but the life is as precious as that of big nations. But all these things should go and the past should be forgiven in the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ.
The current talk is not between the Congress party of India and the NSCN (I-M) but it is between India and Nagas. It is more than “Hello Mr. Singh and hello Mr. Muivah” Historic of both sides are behind the talk and future is ahead of it. The fate of both sides hangs on the talk. A settlement honourable and acceptable to both sides means a settlement with mutual trust and honour. So honour India and honour the Nagas and have a settlement in the spirit of mutual trust and honour. We need a settlement which is a real healing to either side.
