Kohima, June 30 (MExN): A consultative meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B Henok Buchem, NCS, on Tuesday resolved to expedite repairs on the dilapidated National Highway stretch under Meriema village jurisdiction, following a representation by the Meriema Village Youth Organisation (MVYO).

The meeting, held at the DC Office, Kohima, was attended by officials from the District Administration, PWD (NH), representatives of the contractor M/s Nitin Sai Construction and members of MVYO, stated a DIPR report.

The MVYO had highlighted the poor road condition, citing incomplete works, inadequate drainage, uncleared debris and repeated delays in execution despite multiple representations since March. In response, the Executive Engineer, PWD (NH), informed that proposals for repairing the sinking stretch had already been submitted and that the work order for the affected section was expected to be issued on June 30.

The contractor acknowledged that while some work had been carried out, the project remained incomplete, and committed to begin mobilisation of materials by 2 July and resume work immediately.

The PWD (NH) assured that actual work on the sinking stretch would commence by July 6, following the formal issuance of the work order.

It was also decided that the District Administration and the MVYO would jointly monitor the progress, while the department and contractor would coordinate closely to ensure timely completion.

In view of these commitments, the MVYO agreed to withdraw its proposed restrictions on the movement of government-registered vehicles within Meriema Village jurisdiction.

The DC Kohima thanked all stakeholders for their cooperation and underscored the importance of adhering to the agreed timelines.

The MVYO on Monday had announced that it will restrict the entry of government-registered vehicles within its jurisdiction from July 1, citing the authorities’ failure to act on its repeated representations seeking repairs to NH-2 passing through the village.

Meanwhile, the Meriema Village Youth Organisation (MVYO) through a separate statement revoked its earlier restriction on the movement of government-registered vehicles within its jurisdiction, following the meeting convened by the DC Kohima to address delays in NH repair works.

The decision came after the PWD (NH) and the contractor, M/s Nitin Sai Constructions, gave firm commitments to commence the pending repairs on the NH stretch falling under Meriema, as resolved during the meeting held in the DC’s office chamber earlier today.

MVYO stated that the restriction order stands withdrawn with immediate effect, while adding that it will continue to monitor the progress of the works in close coordination with the district administration and the concerned department.

It also acknowledged the prompt intervention of the DC, who brought all stakeholders together to resolve the impasse, and issued the revocation order in the interest of public convenience.
