Mizoram’s apex student body, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) and Mizoram State Aids Control Society(MSACS) will jointly launch campaign to spread awareness on AIDS, sources from the MZP said on February 5.
Leaders of MZP led by its president B Vanlaltana called on Mizoram Health minister Dr R Lalthanglianaat the latter's office in Aizwl to discuss the growing spread of AIDS and measures to fight the deadly disease.
It was agreed during the interaction that the MZP in collaboration with MSACS will launch campaign to spread awareness on AIDS across the state, Vanlaltana said.
Meanwhile, the student body urged the state government to immediately implement a rule to regulate transfer and posting of teachers across the state.
The meeting of MZP executive committee on Wednesday observed that many schools are facing teacher crunch due to the absence of proper teacher transfer and posting rule, according to Vanlaltana.
He also said that many teachers in urban area refused to go to rural areas and hired substitute teachers, which in turn jeopardized students' careers.
The MZP also urged the state government to expedite the implementation of “The Mizoram Education (transfer and posting of school education teachers) Amendment Rules, 2020,” which was approved by the state cabinet on January 17, he said.
The amendment rules, which seeks to curb proxy teachers and ensure that teachers serve at their respective posting, will be tabled in the state assembly during the upcoming budget session to be held from February 17 to March 14.
The MZP would also launch large scale inspections on government schools in the state.
Vanlaltana said that the executive committee meeting observed that students in the state are deprived of certain facilities availed to other pupils in different parts of the country.
“We will carry out mass inspections of schools to study and ascertain the conditions of students and teachers all over the state,” he further said.
