Tahamzam (Senapati), MARCH 29 (MExN): In the backdrop of the Manipur state government declaring March 30, Good Friday – a sacred occasion for Christians - as working day, two Naga organisations of the state have asked the citizens to observe the day. The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) asserted that the order of the Manipur state government will not take effect in respect of Senapati district. The NPO, which is headquartered in Senapati (also known as Tahamzam), in a “directive” have asked businesses and government offices to remain closed on account of Good Friday. “Institutions, shops and government offices violating this order and directive shall be at their own risk and shall not blame this office for any untoward incident,” stated the NPO. It further directed the Senapati District Student's Association (SDSA) “to monitor” the “directive and order” so that no untoward incidents occur within Senapati district. Meanwhile, the SDSA in a separate statement, called upon the citizens of Senapati district to cooperate and abstain from carrying out any official work and business activity on March 30. The SDSA said, “It is a holy day to commemorate the Cruxificion of our Lord Jesus Christ. As a Christian majority district, let us respect the sentiments of the people without disturbances as many Christians spend the day fasting as it is a day of mourning and penance.” It added that it will be monitoring any activity in the district.
