Nagaland bags silver at 37th Senior National Tug-of-war C’ship

Nagaland tug-of- war team today bagged silver at the 37th Senior National Tug-of-war Championships held in Maharashtra.

Nagaland team was lost to Punjab state team in the grand finale of Men’s senior (Catch weight category).

Nagaland teams consisted; Menuosetuo Yiese, Vechita Khesoh, Vemele Thingo, Sedevizo Keretsii, Vekuzo Vezuh, Heuci Kulim, Rukukhotho Khusoh, Neikhozo, Toino Awomi and Thepukhoyi Swuro.

During league match, Nagaland in its first match defeated Haryana, Telangana (2nd match), Himachal Pradesh (3rd match) and Punjab Power in 4th match.

The team was led by Nagaland Tug- of-War Association president Dr. Er. Vekho Swuro and general secretary Chikhozo Sapu.
Dr. Er. Swuro thanked Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for sponsoring Nagaland team. He also thanked 13th Assam Rifles for assisting technical help to Nagaland team for the championship. He also thanked Thejangulie Rio and all the individuals for supporting Nagaland team.

Altogether, 50 teams from 21 states joined the championship, held from January 5 to 8. The event was organised by Tug-of-War Federation of India, affiliated with Tug-of- War International Federation, South Africa.

Meanwhile, Dr. Er. Vekho Swuro informed that eight players from Nagaland have been provisionally selected for the upcoming World Cup Competition (Tug-of War) to be held in South African in June 2025. They will go for further selection trials, he said.
Nagaland team will return the state on January 10.
