Nagaland fighters shine at ‘Manipur Pride: Rise of Warriors’ MMA event

Dimapur, April 12 (MExN): Three fighters from The Combat Academy, Nagaland competed in the first edition of “Manipur Pride: Rise of Warriors,” a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event held at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal on April 11.

The event featured a mix of professional and semi-professional bouts, showcasing emerging as well as established talent from the region.

Thanmi Angkang competed in a professional bout against Rajat Diwedi of Pune and secured a submission victory in the third round. His performance was marked by composure, strategy and technical execution throughout the contest.

Imkummendang Ozukum stepped in on short notice as a replacement for Lichonthung Lotha, who withdrew due to a training injury. He put up a spirited performance but lost via a split decision, a result that drew mixed reactions from the crowd.

Shanchui Zimik, originally from Manipur and having completed his training camp at The Combat Academy, competed in a professional bout and delivered a first-round knockout victory over Manish Kumar of Delhi, sealing the contest with an early finish.

The participation of the fighters highlighted the growing presence of mixed martial arts talent from Nagaland in regional competitions.
