DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 19 (MExN): The XXXII Nagaland Police-Duty-cum-Sports & Athletic Meet 2011 concluded much fanfare on Saturday, November 19, with the Director General of Police K. Kire, IPS, gracing the closing ceremony as the chief guest. The six-day long event had the 11th NAP (IR) emerging as the overall champion as well as the game champion.
This year’s edition is touted to be the biggest ever in terms of team participation and response from participants. According to the records, there were a total of 2825 participants, a jump from 1764 in the previous edition.  It witnessed participation from teams of all the 15 armed battalions and the DEF units, as well as the NAPTC, IGP (Int), Kohima and NPTS.
DGP Kire, in his address was highly appreciative of the enthusiastic response shown and displayed by all the participating teams and hoped the event will be carried on in the same spirit. Going down memory lane, a reflective Kire said that the day reminded him of the year he first took part in the state police meet, back in 1976. “… And after about 35 odd years, to be here with you is something nostalgic for me,” he said. Still all good things must come to an end, he added. While expressing delight that this year has witnessed the highest number of participants, he added that the state police has come a long way and “we have a long way to go.”
Decked in their respective team uniforms, Kire said that it goes on to show that the senior officers as well as those under them (the participants) are showing keen interest, which is a good sign. He also expressed contentment that the competition was held without a hitch in the midst of exemplary display of the sporting spirit from all. Making special mention of the 15th Mahila NAP (IR), he said that the unit is doing well in sports as well, beside their normal law order duties, while he added that he hope to see them doing well even in the years to come.  “Through sports and games, we make much more friends and if you’re truly and sincerely a sportsman then you are surely a good citizen, he said.”
