Nagaland University ‘odd semester’ exams postponed

Lumami, November 13 (MExN): Nagaland University has postponed the ‘odd semester’ examinations scheduled for December 7 in compliance to the Department of Higher and Technical Education’s direction to reschedule examinations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In compliance to the State Government (higher and Technical Education) letter no HTE/NU/9-3/2020/795. dated November 12, 2020 and in view of the prevailing situation due to the spread of Coronavirus in the State, the Nagaland University odd semester (1st, 3rd, and 5th semester) Examinations scheduled from December 7, 2020, is hereby postponed,” the Controller of Examinations said in a release on Friday.

It said that the new dates for the examinations would be announced later.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the All Nagaland College Students' Union (ANCSU) acknowledged the state government and the NU for “understanding the threat of the prevailing pandemic and postponing the scheduled NU exams.”

It also reiterated its suggestion that the exams be held ‘preferably through online mode, with befitting examination code of conduct,’ and appealed the colleges’ fraternity to be diligent and cautious.

Earlier on November 10, ANCSU had written to the University’s Vice Chancellor as well as the Chief Secretary seeking postponement of the exams citing various logistical as well as health and safety concerns for the college community.

“…The ANCSU place on record that, as per our findings, physical mode of examination is discouraged for the forthcoming examination. It will be appreciated if the possibility to conduct online exams can be thought upon as the situation remains inconducive,” it said in the letter.
