• FNR, NPGs and tribal Hohos call for united front
• Day of prayer for Naga political issue on May 18
KOHIMA, MAY 7 (MExN): The Naga Political Groups (NPGs), tribal Hohos, and the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) came together on May 5 and 6 at Pruzie (Shisha Hoho), Kohima, to continue building on the resolution affirming the historical and political rights of the Nagas.
A press communiqué issued by the FNR informed that the two-day meeting reaffirmed that no Naga Political Group or civil organization is excluded from the ongoing process. As signatories, the gathering collectively emphasised an inclusive approach and urged all NPGs and civil bodies to join hands in moving forward with unity and purpose.
Acknowledging the contributions of various Naga individuals and groups working for the cause, the meeting expressed appreciation for their efforts. At the same time, it underscored that those who choose to remain indifferent to the inclusive call will, by their inaction, be excluding themselves from the collective journey.
The gathering resolved to reach out to every tribal church council or association through their respective tribal Hohos, requesting them to observe Sunday, May 18, 2025, as a day of prayer. This call for prayer is intended for the people of Naga areas in general, and in particular, seeks divine intervention in the unfolding Naga political issue.
Participants of the conclave affirmed the urgent need for all Nagas to converge on the essential unity of Naga political rights. While recognising existing differences, they called for efforts to build bridges of understanding marked by grace and empathy.
Drawing on the authority and mandate of the tribal Hohos, the gathering further declared that all Naga Political Groups must come under the “Machan” of common belonging, where no single group identity is allowed to impose a hegemonic rule over others.
The meeting concluded with a reminder that in the pursuit of being “correct,” Nagas must not fence themselves out. “Nagas coming together is an instrument of liberation,” the statement said, adding that it is only through unity that the people can move toward true freedom and reconciliation.
