KOHIMA, JUNE 24 (MExN): District administrations in Mokokchung and Kiphire have intensified efforts to combat substance abuse and narcotics-related activities through public awareness campaigns and strengthened inter-departmental coordination under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA).
In Mokokchung, a district walkathon themed “NMBA: Viksit Bharat ke Pehchaan” was organised on June 24 to promote a drug-free society. The event was flagged off by Senior Superintendent of Police, Vesupra Kezo, and saw the participation of students and district officials.
The walkathon commenced from the Deputy Commissioner's Office and concluded at Mokokchung Public Ground.
Addressing participants during a brief programme, Assistant Commissioner and Nodal Officer for NMBA Mokokchung, Dr Madhavi R said the initiative seeks to raise awareness on drug abuse prevention and encourage collective community action against substance abuse.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mokokchung, Atsungba Walling, administered the NMBA pledge, while the programme concluded with a mass signature campaign reaffirming the community's commitment towards a drug-free society.
Meanwhile, the District Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting in Kiphire on June 23 reviewed the district's law-and-order situation relating to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and discussed measures to strengthen prevention and enforcement efforts.

The meeting, chaired by ADC Kiphire, Longdiba L Sangtam reviewed enforcement actions undertaken by police, excise and other agencies, including NDPS cases, seizures, prosecutions and follow-up measures.
Superintendent of Police, Kiphire, Chinese Chakhesang also briefed members on key agenda items.
Discussions focused on strengthening coordination and intelligence sharing among departments, enhancing surveillance against drug trafficking and local peddling, and improving monitoring of prescription and controlled medicines.
The committee also reviewed awareness initiatives in educational institutions and communities, as well as counselling, de-addiction and rehabilitation support mechanisms available in the district.
As per the State DIPR, the meeting further emphasised the role of village councils, churches, civil society organisations, student bodies and youth groups in preventing drug-related activities and promoting community vigilance.
