Kohima, September 18 (MExN): The Nasha Mukt Yuva for Vikshit Bharat programme under the theme, “My Health, My Pride” was held at Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School (RGHSS), Kohima, on September 18 to promote awareness among young people on the harmful effects of substance abuse and encourage them live healthy and a drug-free life.
The programme was organised by the NSS Unit of Rüzhükhrie GHSS in collaboration with Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Government of India and Regional Directorate NSS Guwahati, Assam.
Dr Moajungla, Medical Officer, CHC Chiephobozou, who administered the Nasha Mukt pledge to the NSS volunteers, spoke on the importance of being aware of various circumstances that make a person vulnerable to substance abuse.
She highlighted the stages of addiction, the subsequent physical and psychological consequences and the importance of counselling and rehabilitation.
In the Youth Engagement session, four NSS volunteers namely- Benchio, Junta, Rose and Sharon spoke about their experiences on navigating the challenges and pressures faced, all reiterating the importance of individual as well as collective involvement in addressing the issues of substance abuse.
The programme was chaired by B Orenvungo Yanthan, PO NSS while vote of thanks was proposed by Moatemsu Jamir, PO NSS.
Altogether, 330 NSS volunteers took part in the event and pledged to be drug-free, reinforcing the message of a Nasha Mukt India and a healthier, stronger and responsible youth community.
