Dimapur, May 5 (MExN): The Nagaland Basketball Association (NBA) has announced state trials for the upcoming North East Elite Basketball League (U19 Men), with the selection process scheduled to be held on May 9 at the Indoor Stadium, Medziphema.
According to a press release issued by the association, the trials will begin at 1:00 pm and are open to eligible players born on or after January 1, 2007.
Participants must be permanent residents of Nagaland, aged above 15 years, and are required to produce their original Aadhaar card and birth certificate for verification.
The association informed that 15 players will be shortlisted from the state trials to represent Nagaland at the official selection trials to be held in Aizawl on May 18 and 19.
This will be followed by the draft ceremony on May 20, where selected players will be assigned to franchise teams for the inaugural North East Elite Basketball League.
The league is scheduled to be held in Aizawl from June 22 to July 2. Selected players will be provided accommodation, food, and hospitality during the trials, while travel reimbursement will be offered as per the organisers’ policy, the release stated.
Speaking on the initiative, Sentiningsang Longkumer, Honorary Secretary of the Nagaland Basketball Association, described it as a major opportunity for young players to showcase their talent on a professional platform.
He said the league aims to strengthen grassroots basketball in the Northeast and provide emerging athletes with exposure at a higher competitive level.
The North East Elite Basketball League is being jointly organised by ABC Basketball Development League Pvt. Ltd., ACG, and state basketball associations across the Northeast.
