Kohima, August 31 (MExN): The Nagaland College of Music & Fine Arts (NCMFA) held its Convocation-cum-Auditorium Inauguration at its newly constructed college auditorium in Kohima on August 31.
Higher Education & Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along attended the event as the Commencement Speaker and Inaugural Guest.
The new college auditorium was ceremonially unveiled by Along, while the dedication prayer was pronounced by Rev Dr Kevekhalo Lasuh, Senior Pastor of Christian Brotherhood Church Kohima (CBCK). Er Vilini Q Wotsa, SDO, PWD (Housing), Education Division, Kohima, presented a technical report detailing the construction of the auditorium.
The inauguration was followed by the formal convocation proceedings. The NCMFA Choir presented the 'Hallelujah Chorus', and the event also marked the official unveiling and first rendition of the NCMFA College Anthem, composed and written by faculty member Ameu Usou Zao.
Addressing the gathering on behalf of the graduating students, Neivilie Sothu reflected on the experiences and collective journey of the batch.
Delivering the commencement address, Minister Along congratulated the graduands and lauded NCMFA as the premier music institution in the state. He encouraged the graduates to recognize the intrinsic value of the education, merit, and talents they have acquired, emphasizing that individual achievement comes with a collective responsibility to contribute to society.
Along stressed that meritorious and skilled students evolve into an "enterprise" in themselves. He cautioned that confining degrees, knowledge, and merit to oneself is a loss for both the individual and society, urging the graduates to multiply their gifts, create opportunities, inspire others, and apply their training beyond the confines of the college.
During the ceremony, Bachelor of Music degrees were conferred upon the graduating students. Each graduand received their degree certificate from the Minister, while the ceremonial turning of the tassel was led by Managing Director Vesato Theluo. Medozho Zango presented floral tokens to the graduates to mark the occasion.
The Academic Excellence Award was conferred upon Ayangbam Amordius Khuman, topper of the 2025 batch, and Neivilie Sothu, topper of the 2026 batch.
The graduands were subsequently administered the Graduands’ Charge by Managing Director Theluo, followed by a special blessing prayer led by Rev Suhuto Chishi, Youth Secretary, Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC).
The Principal and Chairperson, Dr Rükulü Kezo Puro, delivered the closing remarks and vote of thanks, after which the ceremony concluded with the academic recessional.
