Kohima, September 13 (MExN): The Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement (NCYM), Diocese of Kohima, observed NCYM Sunday on September 13 with prayer, fellowship and various youth-centred activities across parishes and centres of the diocese.
NCYM Sunday, observed annually on the second Sunday of September in accordance with Article 6 of the NCYM Constitution, is dedicated to celebrating young people and encouraging their active participation in the life and mission of the Church.
This year's observance brought together young people from across the diocese in a spirit of faith, unity and service.
The observance extended beyond the central programme, with youths from parishes and centres throughout the Diocese of Kohima coming together to mark the occasion.
Through Holy Masses, prayers, fellowship and youth activities, the young people renewed their commitment to living out their faith and contributing actively to the mission of the Church.
The diocese-wide observance reflected the vibrancy and diversity of the Catholic youth community while highlighting the importance of accompanying, empowering and nurturing young people in their faith journey.
As part of the observance, NCYM office bearers visited Eden Gardens Children's Home at Khuzama, where age-specific sessions were conducted focusing on the spiritual, personal and emotional development of the children.
For students of Classes 1 to 5, a session on "Living a Successful Christian Life" was conducted, encouraging them to grow in faith and practise Christian values in their daily lives.
Students of Classes 6 to 8 participated in a session on "Spirituality and Career Options," which focused on the importance of nurturing their spiritual lives while becoming aware of different possibilities and choices for their future.
A mental health session was conducted for students of Classes 9 and 10, focusing on emotional well-being and the importance of caring for their mental health during adolescence.
The sessions were complemented by various activities and games to make the programme engaging and meaningful for the children.
The prize distribution was conducted by Rev Fr Kokto Kurian, director of NCYM.
The NCYM Sunday 2026 observance served not only as an occasion for fellowship and celebration but also as a reminder that young people are an integral part of the Church and are called to be courageous witnesses of Christ in their families, communities and society.
