Jotsoma, September 1 (MExN): The Department of Chemistry, Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, successfully concluded its three-day Lecture Workshop on “Recent Advances in Chemical Sciences (RACS-2026)” on August 29.
The workshop, held from August 27 to 29 at the college campus, was organised under the Education Programme sponsored by the Science Academies. It aimed to provide undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars, faculty members and young researchers exposure to recent developments and emerging frontiers in chemical sciences.
The programme brought together eminent scientists and academicians from leading institutions, including the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru; Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru; and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. The resource persons delivered lectures on contemporary themes across various areas of chemistry, providing participants insights into current research trends, scientific methodologies and emerging challenges.
According to the college, interaction with the resource persons was a major feature of the workshop, with the lectures and discussions encouraging scientific curiosity, critical thinking and a research-oriented approach among participants. The programme also offered students and young researchers an opportunity to gain a broader understanding of contemporary chemical research.
The valedictory function on August 29 included an overview of the college’s research activities presented by Dr Lilongchem Thyug, IQAC Coordinator, besides the workshop report, participant feedback, remarks by the convenor and reflections from the resource persons.
Presenting the workshop report, Dr Daniel Kibami, Organising Coordinator, RACS-2026, highlighted the successful conduct of the programme and enthusiastic participation of students, research scholars and faculty members. He expressed appreciation to the resource persons, Science Academies, college authorities, faculty members, student volunteers and participants for their contributions to the programme.
Prof Balaji R Jagirdar, FASc, Convenor, Lecture Workshop (RACS-2026), IISc Bengaluru, appreciated the initiative of hosting the workshop at Kohima Science College and encouraged students to cultivate scientific curiosity and pursue research with dedication and perseverance.
The resource persons, in their reflections, emphasised the importance of building a strong foundation in fundamental sciences, developing research aptitude and encouraging young minds to engage with challenging scientific questions.
Prof Limatemjen, Dean of Academics, delivered the concluding remarks, while Prof K K Tiwari, Head, Department of Chemistry, proposed the vote of thanks.
The college described the completion of RACS-2026 as a significant academic initiative aimed at advancing chemistry, inspiring young minds and strengthening the culture of scientific inquiry and research in the region. The programme concluded with a coffee/tea interaction among participants and resource persons.
