Maligaon, January 9 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has installed an IP-based Video Surveillance System (VSS) on a Tower Wagon at the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Depot under the Katihar Division, in what it described as another step towards strengthening safety, security and operational efficiency through technological upgradation.
According to an official release, the system uses advanced IP cameras to transmit high-quality video over wired and wireless networks, enabling centralised and real-time monitoring of Tower Wagon operations at the depot.
The newly installed VSS allows round-the-clock surveillance of critical activities, particularly during maintenance and overhead equipment (OHE) works.
It is expected to help identify potential hazards, ensure compliance with safety protocols and support post-event analysis, training and continuous improvement through recorded footage, the NFR said.
With its IP-based, scalable and easy-to-maintain technology, the system is also expected to strengthen asset protection, improve workforce management and optimise operational supervision, it added.
NFR said the initiative reflects its continued focus on technological innovation, enhanced safety standards and efficient project execution, contributing to safer, more reliable and sustainable railway operations across the region.
