Jiribam subdivision of Imphal East is now facing shortage of fuel as Jiri-Silchar road remained cut off since the last four days. The National Highway 37 became unmotorable following the collapse of a major bridge on December 31. Repairing work on the bridge is currently underway. Completion of the repairing work is impossible without the help of engineers from the PWD, they said.
Mizoram not to hold talks with HPC (D) ultras
Aizawl, January 3 (PTI): Mizoram government would not hold negotiations with Manipur-based Hmar People's Convention (Democrats) militants despite the outfit having expressed its willingness, Home Minister R. Lalzirliana said today. Lalzirliana told PTI that the HPC(D) faction led by its 'Chairman' H. Zosangbera approached the state government with peace overtures which were turned down last year. "We do not have any intention to hold negotiations during 2016 unless the militants fulfill our conditions," he said. The outfit had ambushed the Assembly committee on government assurances team early last year. Three policemen were killed when HPC(D) militants ambushed the Assembly committee team on March 28 last year near Mizoram-Manipur border Zokhawthiang hamlet.

Assam woman in Bareilly hospital, cops unable to trace family
Bareilly, Jauary 3 (TNN): A 75-year-old woman from Assam has been lying in the district hospital here for the past two months with doctors and staff unable to either identify her or get in touch with her kin. The septuagenarian's mental illness and inability to communicate in any language other than her mother tongue, which seems to be Assamese, has been a hurdle in tracing her family members. She was brought to the hospital by the driver of an 108 ambulance after she fell from a moving train near Bareilly railway station and broke her leg. Doctors attending to her, including senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr K S Gupta, said she had sustained injuries in her right leg and had to undergo a surgery. Additional director of health department Dr Subodh Sharma said, "We will upload the woman's photograph on social media websites such as WhatsApp and Facebook in a bid to trace her family." An attendant of a fellow patient said, "She does not speak much and we are unable to speak her language. She only sits with folded hands, as if pleading for help. May god reunite her with her family."
