NFR commissions 132 kV transmission line in Araria–Thakurganj Section

Maligaon, December 19 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has commissioned a crucial 132 kV transmission line to power its expanding electric rail network in North Bihar, the railways said on Friday.

The new line, spanning 5.9 kilometres, connects the Araria Grid Sub-Station to the Araria Traction Sub-Station. It was successfully charged and made operational on December 17, 2025.

Officials stated that this infrastructure will significantly enhance power availability and operational reliability for electric train services. It is designed to meet the current and future power demands of the Katihar–Jogbani route and the newly constructed Araria–Thakurganj line.

This project is a critical component of the ongoing electrification drive in the region. It follows the recent electrification of the Araria and Araria Court–Bibiganj section, covering 67.186 Route Kilometres, which was commissioned on October 30, 2025.

The NFR emphasised that the development underscores its commitment to building robust and reliable traction power infrastructure. It also aligns with Indian Railways' mission of achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2030 by promoting energy-efficient and eco-friendly rail transport.

The newly strengthened power supply is expected to pave the way for seamless, capacity-augmented, and safe electric train operations in this part of the Katihar Division.
