NFR enhances freight operations with new initiatives

Maligaon, December 16 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is making strides in its freight transportation network by adopting new initiatives to improve customer interface and expand operations. These measures include opening more stations equipped for handling inward and outward goods traffic, ensuring smoother and more feasible transportation for customers.

As part of its efforts, a notable achievement was recorded in November 2024 when a consignment of rice was successfully transported from Tufanganj railway station in West Bengal to Jirania railway station in Tripura. M/s Tufanganj Agro Industries Pvt. Ltd. dispatched the consignment under the ‘Mini Rake Demand’ scheme, with payment made entirely online, showcasing Indian Railways' adoption of digital systems for customer convenience. The process, which involved direct loading from trucks and precise consignment management, was carried out with a focus on safety, reliability, and transparency. Joint wagon inspections ensured the highest safety standards, emphasizing railways as one of the fastest and most economical modes of goods transportation in India.

In another milestone, NFR commenced quartzite loading from Binnaguri railway station to SSPL Siding in West Bengal, marking the first time such an operation was undertaken. This initiative is expected to generate approximately ₹40 lakh in revenue per rake, further bolstering regional economic growth and strengthening the railway’s freight operations.

“These developments highlight NFR’s commitment to modernizing freight logistics and delivering seamless transportation solutions. With a focus on enhanced efficiency and a customer-centric approach, NFR continues to position itself as a trusted partner for businesses, contributing to improved freight connectivity and economic growth in the region,” a press release from the NFR stated today.
