NFR realized Rs 62.98 crore from ticketless travellers during last FY

DIMAPUR, MAY 31 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said it has recovered more than Rs 4.81 crore from ticketless travellers during the month of April 2023. 

Chief Public Relations Officer, Sabyasachi De in a press statement said during the period from April 2022 to March 2023, a total of 778808 cases of without ticket/irregular ticket passengers were detected and an amount of Rs 62.98 crores was realized as excess fare and penalty. Altogether it is 73.68% higher in terms of number of penalty cases and 169.56% higher in terms of penalty earnings compared to same period of previous year. 

It stated that travelling without proper ticket or beyond authorised distance may lead to levy of excess charge and fare. In case a passenger fails or refuses to pay the same on demand, he shall be in default of payment and will be prosecuted under relevant sections of The Railways Act, 1989. 

While appealing the general public to travel with proper & valid tickets and carry valid identity cards in order to avoid inconvenience, the NFR also informed that now passengers can purchase unreserved tickets from one part of the country to another through Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile application on their smart phones. The UTS application can be downloaded from both android & apple app-store.
