NFR unloads 1,184 freight rakes in December 2024

MALIGAON, JANUARY 8 (MExN): In a significant achievement, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully unloaded 1,184 freight-carrying rakes in December 2024, marking the highest number of rakes unloaded in a single month during the financial year 2024-25. This brings the total number of unloaded rakes to 9,404 by the end of December.

In a press release, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma informed that NFR's efforts are geared towards ensuring the timely delivery of both essential and non-essential commodities across its jurisdiction. During December, a variety of goods were transported and unloaded, including essential items such as FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizers, coal, and tanks. These goods were distributed across various goods sheds within the NFR jurisdiction.

The unloading activity was spread across different states, with Assam receiving the largest share of 638 rakes, 314 of which were loaded with essential commodities. In addition, 98 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 15 in Nagaland, 13 in Arunachal Pradesh, 4 in Manipur, and 10 in Mizoram. West Bengal and Bihar also saw significant unloading activity, with 211 and 195 rakes respectively.

NFR attributed this accomplishment to the speedy execution of doubling works at key sections and the enhancement of terminal handling facilities, which has facilitated the increased movement of freight. Continuous monitoring at all levels has reduced turnaround times, improving unloading efficiency and thereby boosting the transportation of essential and other commodities, the press release added.
