Niathu Group annual Sports Festival kicks off

 

Dimpaur, October 24 (MExN): Under the theme, ‘Celebrating Youth through Sports,’ the 7th edition of 3-day day Niathu Group Sports Festival (Sports Festival of The North East Tribal Youth) kicked started today at Niathu Resort Chümoukedima.


Gracing the occasion as the guest of honour GOC 3 Corps, Lt General Rajeev Sirohi observed that youth has tremendous future in the field of sports and felt that it was the responsibility of the present generation to promote the talented sports persons, a DIPR report informed. 


Stating that there was no greater joy than sports, Sirohi noted that it was not about winning or losing but it's the participation that matters, the report said. 


Mentioning that sports always  remains near and  dear to the army and Assam Rifles the guest of honour said he was excited to see the wide array of sports discipline to be played during the 7th edition of Naithu Group festival, it added. 


 Chairman, Niathu Group of Hotels and Resorts, Kechanglie Rio, the report said accorded a warm welcome to the special guest and the sportspersons and  informed that players from Tripura, Assam, Manipur, Armed forces and Nagaland will be competing at the event. 


“May the younger generation be inspired by the value of sports displaying strong determination and perseverance,” he said while maintaining that Sports symbolises unity and friendship.


During the 3-day sports festival, sports persons will be competing in different disciplines including Badminton, volleyball, Lawn tennis, Billiards and snooker, Naga wrestling, Niathu 4x4 challenge, angling and cycling. The inaugural programme was chaired by Ato Yepthomi.
