Dubbed as the sports festival of the northeast tribal youth, the 7th Niathu Sports Festival 2019 which began at Niathu Resort, Dimapur on October 24 culminated on Saturday. The sports festival witnessed a total of 437 participants in nine different sports disciplines.


Speaking at the closing ceremony as the special guest, Chief Secretary, Nagaland, Temjen Toy lauded the Niathu Group for regularly taking up Corporate Social Responsibility activities in the form of the sports festival and providing opportunities for sports lovers and enthusiasts to showcase their talents and witness the same.


Meanwhile, Toy rued that sports in the state is being taken as an extra-curricular activity by many while others states had taken it to a higher level by making it as a career. He pointed out that Nagas were naturally gifted at various sports disciplines and called for “extreme hardwork” to excel in their respective fields. He expressed the hope that youngsters in the state would take on sports seriously and make it a career as per their interest.


During the programme, Chief Minister, Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio who is also the Advisor of Niathu Group of Hotels & Resorts; Chief Secretary Nagaland, Temjen Toy and Advisors including Dr Nicky Kire and K.T. Sukhalu handed over prizes to winners of various categories of sports.
