Niuland DPDB reviews road connectivity, TB and ASF status

Niuland, June 26 (MExN): The monthly meeting of the Niuland District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was held at the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Hall, Niuland, on June 26 under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner T L Kiusumong Tikhir.

The Board discussed the condition of the road and bridge connecting eight villages in the Aghunaqa area. Following the deliberations, the DC directed the Executive Engineer, Roads & Bridges, to prepare a comprehensive plan for presentation at the next DPDB meeting.

District TB Officer Dr Benchilo Ngullie presented the tuberculosis status in the district and outlined various centrally sponsored schemes being implemented. She also highlighted the department's achievements and the challenges it continues to face.

Kivitoli Sema, Field Trainer for Census 2027 in Niuland district, briefed members on the roles and responsibilities of enumerators and supervisors in the ongoing self-enumeration process. Sema clarified that self-enumeration is voluntary and informed the meeting that designated enumerators will begin field enumeration from July 1.

Chief Veterinary Officer Hokato Yeptho also made a presentation on the activities of the Veterinary Department. During the discussion, members raised concerns over the status of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the district.

Responding to the queries, Yeptho said samples from both dead and live pigs in the district had tested positive for ASF. He also clarified details of the livestock insurance scheme implemented in collaboration with the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL), stating that the scheme covers 85% of the insurance premium while livestock owners are required to pay the remaining 15%.
