CSU commenced its 4th phase of agitation against NHIDCL and contractor

PHEK, MAY 29 (MExN): The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) on Thursday commenced its fourth phase of agitation against the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) and the EPC contractor M/s Ratna Infrastructure Project Pvt. Ltd., over what it termed the “prolonged and unacceptable” handling of the Kohima–Jessami Road (Package 2) project.

Now on the 14th day of its symbolic protest, marked by the hoisting of black flags along the stretch, the Union expressed strong dissatisfaction over the continued failure of both NHIDCL and the contractor to address the pressing issues, despite several appeals and official communications.

Describing the road as a vital lifeline for the region, the CSU alleged that poor execution by the contractor has endangered public safety, hampered movement, and severely impacted economic and developmental activities.

“With the onset of monsoon, the condition of the road has worsened drastically. Potholes have multiplied, and the absence of a drainage system has led to rainwater flooding large portions of the road,” the CSU said in a statement. “The situation now resembles a river rather than a highway,” it added.

The Union said it has submitted a formal representation to the Managing Director of NHIDCL in New Delhi, demanding immediate termination of the contractor.

“The CSU will not remain a silent spectator to the continued hardships faced by the people. We will pursue every democratic and legal means to ensure accountability and the appointment of a competent contractor,” the Union stated.

Reiterating its stand, the CSU called for immediate intervention from the authorities concerned, asserting: “No compromise. No delay. Termination or agitation continues.”
