NPCB holds competition on ‘Best Practices of Waste Management’

Dimapur, June 8 (MExN): In commemoration of the World Environment Day, Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) organised prize distribution ceremony for state level competition through lenses for schools and colleges held on the theme “Best Practices of Waste Management” on June 5. 

The competition was organised with an aim to bring into light the importance of effective and sustainable management of waste to protect the land from degradation, stated a press release from the NPCB. 

The competition was judged on four categories under Middle School, High School, Higher Secondary School and Colleges. The criteria for judging was set on the practice of 3Rs, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, Innovative and Creative management of the recyclable waste, sustainability of the waste management practices, segregation at source and disposal of the waste. 

A total of 26 schools and colleges participated in the competition by sending entries including photos, videos and written documentation. 

In the Middle School Category, GMS Artang, Mokokchung and GMS Senkalemba, Mokokchung were adjudged first and second. 

In High School Category, Community Education Centre School, Dimapur, Dainty Buds School, Kohima and Akum Imlong School, Tuensang won the first 3 positions consecutively. 

At Higher Secondary School level, the winners were G Rio School, Kohima 2nd Prize, St. Stephen’s Higher Secondary School, Dimapur and Government Higher Secondary School, Singrijan, Chümoukedima. 

Under College Category, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, Salesian College of Higher Education, Dimapur and St. Joseph’s University, Chümoukedima won the competition. 

The objective of the competition was to highlight the best practices of waste management in educational institutions and to encourage the winning institutions for further development of their waste management activities. 

The Board said that it has been observed that several educational institutions adopt good waste management practices but lack documentation thereby, not highlighted in the state for which the Board wanted to encourage the participation of all the schools and colleges in the state to participate in the documentation and implementation of efficient waste management even in the future.
