NPCC labels CM an ardent BJP apologist

Kohima, April 10 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today condemned what it termed as “immature and baseless comments” allegedly made by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio during the campaign coordination meeting of the People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) on April 8 and accused him of being one of the “most ardent apologists of the BJP.”

The Chief Minister can conveniently turn a blind eye to the “reams of data from independent National as well as International Rights Organisations documenting the BJP's discriminatory treatment against the minorities of India, including the Christian community, but unfortunately, untold Indians who are at the receiving end of this injustice cannot afford that luxury,” the NPCC stated.

Despite “such evidence-backed universal censorship,” he continues to be one of the most ardent apologists of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and this “speaks volumes about the weight of his assurance when he states that he'll never compromise the faith and identity of the Nagas,” it added.

The NPCC further faulted CM Rio for using language unbecoming of the high office that he holds by “belittling” the candidature of his opponents.

“With such a long and eventful political profile under his belt, he should know that a weak or strong candidature will be decided on counting day, by the electorate, not by the subjective views of an individual,” it stated.

“We respect the will of the voters and have high hopes that the people of Nagaland will give a clear and strong mandate in favor of the Congress Party this time around,” it further expressed.

The NPCC also dismissed the allegations of misuse of Article 356 by past Congress governments and asserted that it “looks like a traffic offense in comparison to the wholesale and brazen misuse of state apparatus happening at present under the Modi government.”
