NPCC PAC adopts 3-point resolution on Naga issues

Kohima, June 26 (MExN): The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Thursday unanimously adopted a three-point resolution, raising concerns over delays in implementing peace agreements, the tripartite Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA), and demanding public disclosure of the recent oil exploration MoU signed with Government of India and Assam.

At a meeting held at Congress Bhavan in Kohima, the PAC urged the Government of India to demonstrate its commitment and sincerity to the people of Nagaland by implementing an honourable and acceptable political solution without further delay, stated an update received here.

The committee took serious note of the delay in implementation the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position by the GoI and “the dubious role of the State Government in demanding a Political Interlocuter at the ministerial level,” a demand that will only turn the clock back to where it started.

Expressing that the delay in implementing the tripartite MoA for the creation of the FNTA is “unacceptable,” the PAC held both the Union and state governments fully responsible for the issues that have emerged post-signing. It urged both governments to show sincerity and urgency in resolving contentious matters to fulfil the aspirations of the people in the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) areas.

On the recent tripartite MoU signed between Assam, Nagaland and the Ministry of Home Affairs to restart crude oil and natural gas exploration along the disputed border belt, the PAC acknowledged that oil exploration is the need of the hour given the state's economic condition.

However, it demanded that the contents of the MoU be made public, cautioning that any “sellout” of the state’s rights over land ownership and revenue would not be acceptable.

The resolution was adopted by a committee comprising Working Presidents Khriedi Theunuo and C Apok Jamir, Vice President Capt GK Zhimomi, and General Secretary N Yona Konyak.
