Dimapur: The Nagaland People’s Front has extolled the Dimapur Municipal Council for the achievements made by the latter since its inception. A release issued by the president and general secretary of the NPF Dimapur division said, “The DMC has efficiently been able to execute more than what is owed to them.”
Labelling DMC Chairman Y Vikheho Awomi as ‘a young, energetic and determined person,’ the party with a rooster as its symbol informed of his having practiced as a legal practitioner for 5 years and of his experience in the functioning of a civic body during his stint as the Advisor to the Dimapur Town Committee.
The NPF expresses the optimism that the governmental, non-governmental as well as individuals would cooperate in making the nascent DMC into an effective civic body as a lot of larger projects are down the pipeline, the release said.
Achievements made by the DMC as highlighted by the NPF
• Relocating slaughter houses to at least hundred feet from the main road, initiating a project of Rs 97 lakh for slaughter house
• Purchase of a JCB Excavator and six tractors/trailers to clear up filth around Dimapur, initiative towards procuring a new garbage dumping ground with the assurances of the chief minister’s help and purchase of a cess pool cleaner which generates a monthly income of Rs 45,000
• Introduction of a uniform taxation system and the provision of signboards and identity cards for such booths in an effort to fight the menace of “illegal tax”
• Supervision of the rates of essential commodities
• Shifting of illegal/ unauthorized vendors to the supermarket area after obtaining permission from the Development Authority of Nagaland and providing free electricity to these vendors. Shifting of the taxi stand from ISBT to the supermarket.
• Obtaining pattas of public land for the first time in its history and thus stopping encroachments.
