Oinam Hills | November 20 : The Naga Students’ Federation, the apex students and highest decision making body of the Nagas concluded its 2nd General Assembly for the current tenure yesterday here at Oinam Hill Village. The meeting resolved to protect the Nagas land and its natural resources.
Among many things the major points reported to be discussed are the ‘Illegal Immigrants’, ‘Protection of Natural Resources’, ‘Job Reservation’, ‘Issue between the Government of Manipur and the Nagas living therein,” “Border issue”, “Education, backdoor appointment”, “Extension of disturbed Area Belt and AFSPA in Naga Area by Government of India.”
The apex Naga Students body has reaffirmed not to part even ‘an inch of Nagas’ land’ and stood by the MoU entered with the Government of Manipur way back in 1992 when it comes to the Sadar Hill issue in Manipur.
The reliable source informed that the meeting also discussed on length regarding the exploitation of natural resources in Naga inhabited areas to protect the natural resources in Nagas’ inhabited area.
The matter related to the Education, backdoor appointments and other also was discussed by the students’ body in the said meeting, according to reliable sources. The meeting also re-affirmed the NSF’s stand to its principle for an honorable and acceptable settlement to the Naga political issue, it is informed.
The said meeting was proposed to be held on May 2010 but could be materialized due to the ban imposed on Th.Muivah, General Secretary, NSCN (IM) entry to Manipur by the Cabinet where the delegates of NSF were also stopped to proceed to visit Oinam, the scheduled venue of its meeting. Due to the Mao Tragedy May 2010, the scheduled meeting was canceled. However, the meeting was successfully held on 19th November 2011 at Oinam Hill Village.
Earlier before its General Assembly, the delegates of the Naga Students’ Federation Team and its federating units’ representatives had an interactive session with the villagers where the living victims of Oinam narrated their ordeal suffered in pain and agony during a nine month long Operation Blue Bird and the subsequent days and years. Village elders encouraged the Naga students to carry forward the vision of the forefathers and pursue it gallantly and wisely.
On the other hand the NSF delegates shared their solidarity with the Oinam Village in form of speeches by Pushika Awomi in which he stated, “We Nagas draw inspiration from the Incident, Oinam is the source of inspiration and patriotism, the suffering of from the youngest to the oldest make the village Oinam a remarkable land and historic place, where Naga people will come one day and listen to the stories.”
Kelhouneizo Yhome, president Naga Students’ Federation shared his solidarity by narrating that NSF is not new with the Oinam Incident, rather is the first to constitute fact finding committee to study the case of Oinam way back in 1987 under the then President Chikrovy. Even the NSF delegates were not spared in torturing where four NSF delegates were tortured and put behind bars. He also said that the NSF leader R.Papino is the first one to file a petition in the court.
After the meeting, the students delegate visited the attacked camp site, the concentration camp and departed from the historic village late 19th November evening.
Speaking to The Hornbill Express, the Chairman of Oinam Hill Village Authority expressed sincere gratitude to the NSF team for their assurance to construct NSF Memorial Assembly Hall as a gift to the war torn people of Oinam. NSF team also assured to take up sincere action on the Oinam Hill Authority’s request to mark 9th July every year as a National Holiday (A Red Letter Day) in all the Naga inhabited areas with prayer and service in the church. The meeting was attended by 70 delegates and 12 federating units.
