NSO (M) expresses solidarity with UNC

Dimapur, August 26 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Organization, Myanmar [NSO (M)] has expressed full solidarity with the United Naga Council (UNC), supporting its stance on territorial integrity and the political future of the Naga people.

In a statement, NSO (M) lauded the UNC for what it termed as the Council’s’ leadership and principled stand,’ highlighting its commitment to the unity of Nagas across all borders.

The organisation said its members, particularly those in Eastern Nagaland (Myanmar), continue to face the challenges of state neglect, militarisation, and the impacts of border restrictions.

The NSO (M) condemned the actions of the Indian government and denounced the silence of the Myanmar government regarding the withdrawal of the Free Movement Regime (FMR).

The Nagas have never recognised the FMR, and that movement across ancestral lands is a birthright rooted in history, culture, and kinship, long predating modern borders, it asserted.

“The recent withdrawal of the FMR came not as a routine policy change, but as a shock—revealing the deeper intent of both governments to divide and control the Naga people,” it added demanding an immediate halt to the fencing and a reversal of all policies restricting free movement of Naga people.

Calling upon all Naga organizations, student bodies, and youth movements to unite, the NSO (M) also appealed to the international community and human rights defenders to support the Naga people’s cause for unity, dignity, and self-determination.

“Let it be known: we were never divided by consent, and no policy, border, or government can ever rewrite our identity or destiny. Nagalim lives in the heart of every Naga, across every boundary—and no fence can contain that spirit,” the statement added.
